Description
Dr. Seymour Dondes of the Chemistry Department is shown adjusting the calrod heaters attached to a gold-plated reflector used in heating a high-pressure tube containing enriched uranium glass fiber fuel elements (developed at RPI) to the proper temperature. Mr. D. Reilly, Student Assistant, is shown calibrating the pressure-measuring device for the chamber, which is evacuated to reduce heat losses.
