Palmer Chamberlain Ricketts (RPI Class of 1875) published three histories of Rensselaer in 1895, 1914, and 1934. The third edition, reproduced here, recalls the Institute's history from its inception through Ricketts's 43 year tenure as director and later president of RPI. Known as "the builder," Ricketts greatly expanded both the curriculum and the campus during its transformation into a technological university.
